Tracey Spicer AM
Tracey Spicer AM BBus(Comm) MAICD is a Walkley Award-winning Australian journalist, author and broadcaster, and a global keynote speaker and emcee.
Tracey has spent more than three decades in journalism, anchoring national programs for ABC TV and radio, Network Ten and Sky News. She has won multiple Walkley Awards, Australia's leading awards for journalism, and has written, produced and presented documentaries on women and girls in Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Papua New Guinea and India.
As the inaugural national convenor of Women in Media, Tracey became a prominent voice for women in the industry. The ABC highlighted her #MeToo work in the three-part documentary series Silent No More, which featured the stories of hidden survivors, and in 2019 she accepted the Sydney Peace Prize alongside Tarana Burke for the Me Too movement. Her first book, The Good Girl Stripped Bare, became a bestseller within weeks of publication, and her TEDx talk, The Lady Stripped Bare, has attracted almost seven million views. Her essays have appeared in dozens of books, including Women of Letters, She's Having a Laugh, Father Figures, Unbreakable and Bewitched & Bedevilled: Women Write the Gillard Years.
Over seven years, Tracey researched artificial intelligence for her best-selling book Man-Made: How the bias of the past is being built into the future, published by Simon & Schuster in May 2023. The book examines how the prejudices of the past are being embedded in AI systems, and where responsibility lies, from Big Tech to politicians to society at large. It was longlisted for the 2023 Walkley Book Award and won the Social Responsibility category in the Australian Business Book Awards.
Tracey's keynote topics include AI, bias and equity, and she speaks and hosts events for corporate, government and community-sector audiences. In 2024 and 2025 she presented on AI for Tungsten Automation, National Disability Services and the Queensland Public Libraries Association's LEaD Conference, and hosted the Queensland Government's Tourism Innovation Forum. For her 30 years of media and charity work, Tracey was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). In 2019 she was named the NSW Premier's Woman of the Year and won the national award for Excellence in Women's Leadership through Women & Leadership Australia, and in 2018 she was chosen as one of the Australian Financial Review's 100 Women of Influence, winning the Social Enterprise and Not-For-Profit category. She is an Ambassador for Your Side, ActionAid, the Ethnic Business Awards, Emerge Australia, the Australian POTS Foundation and Purple Our World, and Patron of the Pancreatic Cancer Alliance.
